Tonight, join us for a heavily illustrated talk exploring the historical legacy of the tattooed lady in America with a special focus on the freak shows and dime museums where she made her living. We will learn about Nora Hildebrandt-the first professional tattooed lady-as well as such unforgettable characters as Irene Woodward and P.T. Barnum. Irish will situate The Tattooed Lady into the checkered history of tattooing more generally, and investigate how she can be understood today.
