BURIED ALIVE! Live Matchbox Theatre Performance by Deborah Kauffmann

December 4 @ 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm

| $20

Date: Thursday, December 4th
Time: 8pm
Admission: $20 ( Tickets Here )

BURIED ALIVE! a matchbox theatre, is a frightfully funny exploration of our fear of being buried alive and of the curious phenomenon of 19th Century “waiting mortuaries.” Based on historical and medical facts. Intimate and interactive. It is full of dreadful discoveries for a limited adult audience. The show is performed on a tabletop and is constructed entirely in and of matchboxes. It takes advantage of the unique qualities of these tiny stages. Images and characters slide out, slide through, pop up, and drop out of the matchboxes. A merry eccentric matron is your guide. The Nineteenth Century is evoked, but Buried Alive! is creatively anachronistic and it plays with scale.

Kauffmann’s Matchbox Theater play was inspired by an article entitled, “Pediatric Brain Death,” found in a hospital resident on-call room, and by research into the myths, truths, history and ethics surrounding the one of our most basic fears.

Deborah Kaufmann has performed her original solo clown and puppetry across the US, Europe and Australia. “Buried Alive” was featured at “The Puppet is a Human Too” festival in Warsaw, Poland.

She is the Associate Creative Director of Big Apple Circus Community Programs where she trains performers for Clown Care, the original professional hospital clowning programs. She is an artistic partner in The Betes Organization creating engagement and telling the human story of living with chronic disease using the lively arts of theater and puppetry.
