Rose Callahan and Nathaniel Adams are worlds foremost “dandyologist”. In their first book I am Dandy: The Return of the Elegant Gentleman they explored the unique affliction of the male ego known as dandyism in the United States, France, and England. Following the global success of I am Dandy, they are currently working on the second volume - a study of eccentric male elegance across the world. They’ve recently returned from dandy field studies in abroad with further trips planned for Asia and Africa. Join us for an exclusive peek into this new project: stories from the field, what has changed in the world of dandyism since the publication of the first book, and the ever-elusive answer to the ultimate question: what makes a dandy?

Rose Callahan is a photographer and filmmaker living in Brooklyn, New York.  In 2008, Rose began The Dandy Portraits (dandyportraits.com) blog to tell the nuanced story of extreme masculine elegance alive today.  In 2013, I am Dandy: The Return of the Elegant Gentleman, a coffee table book of Rose’s portraits, with profiles written by Nathaniel Adams, was published by Gestalten Press.  The book is currently in its fifth printing, and she is currently working on a second volume about dandies all over the world.  While she is not photographing the best dressed men in the world, Rose works with many commercial clients, and is the exclusive photographer for the Metropolitan Operas fashion blog Last Night at the Met (lastnightatthemet.com).

Nathaniel Natty Adams is a New York native journalist who has written for The New York Times, The Rake, Harpers Bazaar Russia, Mens Journal Online, and The Chap, among other things. He holds a Masters degree from the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism where he won the prestigious Lynton research fellowship for his book proposal on the history of dandyism. But his study of dandyism goes back further, to 2004, when he wrote an independent study called Mods and Metrosexuals: Dandyism in the 20th Century while doing a self-designed bachelors degree in English, History, and Cultural Studies at New York University. He also has several years experience working variously as a salesperson, manager, and director of a few bespoke menswear companies in the U.S. and U.K.
