An Illustrated Lecture with Don Jolly
Date: Thursday, November 20th
Time: 8pm
Admission: $12 ( Tickets Here )
This lecture is presented by Shannon Taggart, Programmer in Residence of the Morbid Anatomy Museum.
Morbid Anatomy’s series on the Elizabethan “magus” John Dee continues in this lecture by writer and artist Don Jolly. In 1587, John Dee and scryer Edward Kelley received a shocking set of instructions from beyond. The two were commanded to share all things in common, including their wives. What happened next is recorded, scene by agonizing scene, in John Dee’s mysterious “spiritual diaries,” the foundational work of Dee’s “Enochian” system of spirit communication. Jolly’s talk privileges the mundane over the magical, with special attention paid to the combative, dynamic and sadly ignored voices of Jane Dee and Joanna Kelley.
