In this workshop, Berlin-born artist Tine Kindermann will teach the art of making a "Guckkasten" or peep-hole installation, using wooden boxes or crates, found objects and small figurines sculpted from polymer clay. Based on folk traditions going back as late as the 18th century, when traveling showmen all over Europe, but also in Asian countries, would display boxes on fairs that allowed the viewer a glimpse into worlds they would otherwise never get to see, "Guckkästen" (peep hole installations) draw us into fascinating miniature worlds that satisfy both the voyeur and the child in us.
